0W20 here. Light tune + bolt ons. Blackstone oil analysis was perfect at 50k miles Weather in CA Bay area is mostly 40+ as well. I doubt the difference between 0W20 and 5W30 is a variance worth chasing in moderate climates (or at all from the other threads i've read..)
The 0w in a 0w20 is not the same as the 0w as a 0w40. Its a multi-range viscosity. The smaller the range, the less change in viscosity. You didn't say that quite right. 0w30 is thicker all the time at all temperatures (in an ideal world) than 0w20, and 0w40 is thicker all the time at all temperatures than a 0w30.
GF-6 is the newest ILSAC engine oil performance standard aimed at improving fuel economy and enhancing engine capabilities for passenger cars. This new standard will replace the current ILSAC GF-5 standard. Every new level of standard is backward compatible with the previous generation. GF-6 will provide low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) and timing
It may say diesel on the bottle but it's not for all GM diesel engines, it's a 0w20 oil that seems to be specifically for the upcoming 3.0L Duramax and meets difference specs than dexos2. :surprise: A 0w20 in a truck diesel. The thought scares me. On the flip side, the 3.0 is an I6 with more bearing surface area so perhaps 0w20 will work just fine.
Comparison of 0w20 and 0w30 Performance in Different Temperatures. Both 0w20 and 0w30 oils perform well in different temperature conditions, but slight differences exist. 0w20 Oil is designed to flow easily at extremely low temperatures, making it suitable for cold climates and cold-start situations.
Also, using thinner oils such as 0w20 or 0w30 on turbocharged engines that use 5w30 or 5w40 is beneficial to the turbos, because thinner oil will flow quicker and transfer the heat away from the turbo quicker. Many people think because they have a turbo engine, they should step the viscosity up a notch from let's say 5w30 to 5w40, but by doing
The first thing to notice is that the 5W-30 engine oil is a higher viscosity oil than the 0W-30. 5w-30 engine oil's capacity to operate within a wide variety of engine types and under a wide range of temperature conditions makes it incredibly versatile. Whether you have a petrol or diesel engine, 5w-30 is quite often the recommended engine

The main difference between 0w20 and 10w30 motor oil is viscosity. 0w20 oil is thinner and flows more easily than thicker oils 10w30. However, just because an oil is thinner doesn't mean it's better. Thicker oil will protect your engine better in extreme temperatures.

GM says 0w-30 is ok to use in place of 5w30. True, GM does allow the user to use 0W30 in extreme cold temperatures. Here is an excerpt form the owners manual. Quote: Cold Temperature Operation: In an area of extreme cold, where the temperature falls below 29°C (-20°F), an SAE 0W-30 oil may be used.
